I received an e-mail from Auburn yesterday. I kind of wish that they had just left well enough alone, but on the other hand Auburn was really great through out the whole process of keeping applicants informed. Why should that be any different just because they rejected me already? The beginning of the email is below.
"By this time you will have received notification that you were not being offered an interview for admission to Auburn University’s College of Veterinary Medicine. This year we received over 600 applications from non-resident students for our 10-15 positions, in fact you did make the first cut in our process from over 600 to approximately 250 candidates, so the fact that you were not offered does not mean that you are not a good candidate. Hopefully you will receive an offer from your home state or another college of veterinary medicine to which you have applied. However, should you apply for the fall of 2010 we sincerely hope that you will again consider Auburn University."
I'm not sure that knowing that I was better than 350 applicants really makes me feel better. Letting go of this dream would be easier if I could believe I was the least qualified applicant.
In other news, my interview with Ross is March 18th.

Interview
Finally a small piece of good news! I have an interview at Ross University. I'm pretty sure almost all of their applicants get interviews, but still it feels nice to not get a flat out rejection.
Will keep you posted when I get more details!

Auburn
My rejection from Auburn came today. It was short and sweet. I appreciate letters that have statistics. This year Auburn had 622 out of state applications. According to their website, last year they accepted only 15 non-resident/non-contracted students. I just can't help but think that with numbers like that, I can't feel too bad about not getting in. It does reinforce the reality that I'll probably never be accepted, however.

Kansas State
5 minutes after writing my last post I got a rejection email from Kansas. It was nothing special and definitely did not make up for the fact that I've known for 2 months that I was not one of the applicants picked for an interview. I suppose it's better that they finally responded though.
Getting into vet school....
Hello! I've been trying to follow my dream of becoming a vet and I'm finding that getting into vet school is like fighting a monkey for a mango. I decided to start a blog about it for other people who are in my situation. Here is my situation thus far.
Rejections are still expected from Auburn and Edinburgh.
In the mean time I started to think about other options. In doing some research I figured out that Ross University in St. Kitts would be a great school to go to. I recently applied there and will probably focus my energy towards getting in there at this point. It might take a few applications, but I'm having a really hard time giving the mango up to the monkey.
- Freshman year of college I was told I would never get into vet school so give up.
- Gave up
- After graduating from college I got a job as an equine vet assistant
- After about a year I decided I wanted to try getting into vet school
- Started back to school part time to finish the few requirements that I had left
- Applied to 8 vet schools (Cornell, Kansas, Missouri, Illinois, Auburn, Prince Edward Island, Edinburgh, and Colorado)
- The rejections rolled in.
Rejections are still expected from Auburn and Edinburgh.
